Tanzania 2017

At 2am on Saturday 3rd June, 20 pupils from S5/6 will join Mr Walker, Miss Dickinson and Miss Loudon on what for many will be the trip of a lifetime to Tanzania.  In conjunction with the Vine Trust we will be building homes for two families who are in need of a stable and secure place to live.  The information on these families is attached.  It’s heartbreaking to read, but through the fundraising the pupils have undertaken over the last 18 months, we will be able to help make a difference to their lives.

The trip will see us spend 8 days ‘labouring’ on the building sites for these two houses.  Jobs will include carrying bricks, shovelling sand, digging foundations, fetching water – nothing particularly skilled (which is just as well really!) but freeing up the local ‘fundis’ to get on with the technical parts of the build.  There will be plenty of time to play and get to know the children and people of the local community, as well as visiting our Tanzanian partners TAWREF, larger children’s homes which the Vine Trust already have up and running, and some other local projects.

Its not all hard work though!  We will visit the Marangu gate of Kilimanjaro – where many people each day start their climb of the mountain and hear of the geography, culture and industry in the region.  We also spend two days towards the end of our trip on safari in Taringerie National Park and the Ngorogoro Crater.  We also hope to visit the two homes the school raised money for and helped to build on the last trip in 2015.

Pupils and staff alike are looking forward to the trip and to meeting up with the pupils and staff from Arran and Carluke High Schools who will be a part of our team.  We wish to thank everyone who has supported us up to this point.  If you’d like to see how we are getting on we have set up a blog which we are hoping to update (internet dependent!) It can be found at http://pgstanzania2017.wordpress.com

Asante Sana!
